5 Tips for the Perfect Tailgate
It’s time to concentrate on tailgating! Nothing quite says fall than crisp cool mornings, warm afternoons, lovely evenings…and football!
Fall is in the air, football has started, and… A true sports fan knows the start of a good football game is the tailgate – the food is almost as important as the game! Check out this article for five tips for the perfect tailgate:
#1: Make a Plan
Make a list of everything you need to take with you and the dishes you are making. Check out your stadium rules for tailgating and make sure you are up-to-date. Since we’re also in the middle of a pandemic, consider having your tailgate in your own driveway. Invite neighbors and friends.
Do some of the preparation beforehand so you have things ready to go and people are only waiting for the food to cook.
#2: Get There Early
Start your tailgate party at least two-three hours before the game. Call the stadium to see when and if vehicles can enter and if there are designated tailgating areas.
Remember that not all parking spaces are created equal. Find a spot next to a grassy area or at the end of a parking row so you’ll have more room for your tailgating.
When you’re done, be sure to leave your spot clean. You don’t want to be known as the tailgater who leaves the mess.
If you’re having your tailgate at home, make sure to start set up with enough time to watch kick-off.
#3: Be Festive
Wear team colors, use colored napkins or decorate the back of your vehicle!
#4: Bring your Grill
If you own a Big Green EGG, it’s time to get hitched. The tailgate hitch fits a variety of EGG sizes.
#5: Stock Your Supplies
Keep your tailgate supplies ready to go. Fill a large plastic container with paper plates, utensils, napkins, paper towels, dish rags, salt & pepper, a bottle of water, etc. Just toss it in your vehicle and go!
Label your coolers, so guests know where to find their favorite beverage. You can even freeze water bottles beforehand, so they are at the perfect temperature as they melt.
Pack a first aid kit – just in case.
